Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Interest Group

Neonatal-perinatal medicine is a subspecialty within pediatrics that focuses on the care of critically ill newborn and premature infants. The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is home to a level 4 NICU, the highest level recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This means that in addition to less critical cases, some of the tiniest, most complicated, and most critically ill newborns are cared for right here in our own hospital.

The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Interest Group brings together students interested in the unique challenges and medical problems seen among newborn infants. As a group, we hope to:

  1. help students understand the field of neonatal-perinatal medicine
  2. encourage interactions with faculty members in the field by providing information on relevant lectures and shadowing opportunities
  3. keep up to date on current problems and research within neonatal-perinatal medicine through monthly journal club meetings
  4. give back to the community through yearly philanthropic events

We welcome any questions, and look forward to meeting you all!
