Medical Student Research Conference

The annual Medical Student Research Conference is an opportunity for the Carver College of Medicine community to enjoy learning about research projects conducted by medical students in the college. Medical students from all four years of study are eligible to present their research.

Most events for the 2018 Medical Student Research Conference were held in the Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF) on September 12-13. Juried events began on Wednesday with concurrent oral presentations starting at 8am and running through 10am. Posters of other medical students' research were on display both Wednesday and Thursday in MERF Atrium, with half the students presenting their work from noon-1pm each day. Presentations in both oral and poster sessions were judged by two CCOM reviewers; all presenters were eligible for cash awards sponsored by various departments and University of Iowa Foundation donors.

An Awards Banquet was held on Friday, September 14 for student presenters, their mentors, and invited guests. Our keynote speaker for 2018 was Dr. Nicholas Mohr, Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine, as well as Clinical Associate Professor with joint appointments in Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia - Clinical Care Medicine, and Epidemiology. Presentation award recipients were announced during this event on Friday evening.
