Internal Medicine Interest Group

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Interest Group!

Internal Medicine physicians, or internists, are doctors for adults.  Some internists provide primary care, while others sub-specialize in areas such as cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, infectious disease, oncology, nephrology, etc.  Some participate in combined programs, for example with pediatrics or with psychiatry.  Internists work in outpatient clinics and hospitals, in big cities and small towns.  The bottom line is that Internal Medicine offers physicians variety, diversity, and unlimited options for their careers.

The goal of the Internal Medicine Interest Group is to provide medical students with opportunities to learn more about the exciting field of Internal Medicine. This year, we look forward to connecting students to faculty and to each other through events that promote networking and education. Students will learn about the breadth of Internal Medicine through discussion of cases and the various paths within the specialty, and will have opportunities to develop peer mentor relationships and become involved in the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP).

IMIG is affiliated with the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM).  Joining IMIG gives you the opportunity to join ACP-ASIM, a national organization with many benefits and FREE membership.

Look for us at the Activities Fair.  We’ll be offering free membership and treats!

If you have any questions about internal medicine or medical school, please e-mail us.  We look forward to joining you in this exciting and diverse field!
