
2022 Carver College of Medicine Creative Writing Anthology
Twelve works of poetry and short fiction are published in the 2022 Carver College of Medicine Creative Writing Anthology, including the five winning entries to the college’s annual creative writing contest: poems by three students and one poem and one fictional work by faculty members.
The winning entries to the student poetry competition:
- First place: “arclet” by Ethan Ksiazek, second-year physician assistant student
- Second place: “May Day” by Elliot Stalter, second-year medical student
- Third place: “Aislamieneto” by Abbygale Willging, second-year medical student
The winning submissions to the faculty/resident/fellow/postdoctoral scholar poetry and fiction competition:
- Poetry: “Emerita” by Marygrace Elson, MD, MME, clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Fiction: “The Quiet Room” by Carol Scott-Conner, MD, professor emeritus in the Department of Surgery
Other works of poetry selected for the anthology include:
- “When I Say Your Name” and “Senility” by Brooks Jackson, MD, MBA, professor in the Department of Pathology
- “Cataract Lake” by Tyler Rasmussen, MD, PhD, fellow physician in the Department of Internal Medicine
- “Horizons” by Isaac Samuel, MD, professor in the Department of Surgery
Other works of fiction selected for the anthology include:
- “The God of Ice Cream” by Brooks Jackson, MD, MBA, professor in the Department of Pathology
- “A Root Off the Banyan Branch” by Isaac Samuel, MD, professor in the Department of Surgery
