The Wellstone Medical Student Fellowship is open to students currently enrolled in any medical school within in the United States who have completed their first year of medical school. The Iowa Wellstone Center at the University of Iowa offers outstanding clinical and laboratory facilities to conduct translational research in muscular dystrophy. Fellows participate in the clinical care of muscular dystrophy patients with Dr. Katherine Mathews (Pediatrics and Neurology) and evaluate muscle biopsies with Dr. Steven Moore (Pathology). Research opportunities include basic science projects with Dr. Kevin Campbell (Physiology) and translational studies with all three mentors. The fellowship provides a stipend and benefits, as well as funds to attend a national scientific meeting.
