The Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Specialized Research Center is housed within 11,000 square feet of University research space on the fourth floor of the Carver Biomedical Research Building at the University of Iowa.

The administrative core coordinates the activities within and outside the Center and promotes an interactive and collaborative research environment.  This core organizes and directs the flow of project information, distribution of research effort, allocation of budgetary and other resources, preparation of annual budgets and projections, scheduling and facilitating regular Principal Investigator meetings and the monthly Wellstone Neuromuscular Conference meetings as well as other administrative issues, including future plans. The administrative core also directs the scientific integration, coordination, and direction of research projects as needed.  This includes consultation with advisors and consultants concerning the importance and progress of the research as it relates to other current and developing muscular dystrophy research and identifying seminar speakers and coordinating their participation and contributions to the Center.

In conjunction with Project 2, this Core will continue the tradition of involving patients and patient advocates in the Center by hosting an annual conference and tours of MDSRC laboratories. The goal of this conference is to educate the patients about ongoing translational research in the MDSRC and provide a forum where they can ask questions concerning muscular dystrophy research.
