Become Part of Our Community of Pain Research

The Pain Research Program welcomes participation from everyone learning, working and teaching at the University of Iowa. All researchers are invited to join the pain research community for journal club, work in progress meetings as well as presentations and invited speaker seminars.

Apply for Formal Training

The Pain Research Program supports the training of both predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. To learn more about the program of study involved for each group of trainees, visit About the Program.  

  • The Pain Research Program supports four trainees annually.
  • Applications are accepted throughout the year with appointments beginning July through October.
  • In accordance with NIH regulations, all trainees must be a United States citizen or a legal resident of the U.S.

Predoctoral Program

  • Positions available for PhD and MD/PhD students.
  • The program provides stipend, tuition, health benefits and funding for travel and supplies.

Postdoctoral Program

  • Positions available for residents and fellows.
  • The program provides protected time for trainees to develop an individual research program, stipend, salary (from department), funding for tuition.
