The Pain Research Program welcomes participation from everyone learning, working and teaching at the University of Iowa. All researchers are invited to join the pain research community for journal club, work in progress meetings, and invited speaker seminars.

Apply for Formal Training

The Pain Research Program supports the training of both predoctoral students (post comp) and postdoctoral fellows. To learn more about the program of study involved for each group of trainees, visit About the Program.  

  • The Pain Research Program supports four trainees annually, two predoctoral and two postdoctoral positions.
  • Applications are accepted throughout the year.
  • In accordance with NIH regulations, all trainees must be a Citizen or a Noncitizen National of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence by the time of award (Green Card holder).

Predoctoral Program

  • Positions available for PhD and MD/PhD students.
  • The program provides support for stipend and associated fringe benefits, tuition, and travel.

Postdoctoral Program

  • The program provides protected time for trainees to develop an individual research program.
  • Support for stipend and associated fringe benefits, tuition, and travel is provided.
  • Postdoctoral scholars with training from a wide range of fields with an interest in pain science are encouraged to apply.
