Monzer M. Abu-Yousef, MD

Monzer M. Abu-Yousef, MD, FACR, FAIUM, FSRU, Professor of Radiology, passed away on Dec. 14, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones.  He was 72.

Dr. Abu-Yousef served as a faculty member in the Department of Radiology for over 40 years.  He was a beloved teacher, mentor and clinician who trained generations of radiologists and technologists.   

As a teacher he won numerous awards over the years, including Best Teacher of the Year, Best Senior Faculty Teacher of the Year for Medical Student Teaching, and the most prestigious departmental award, the Krabbenhoft Teacher of the Year.

He mentored many medical students, residents, fellows, technologists and researchers. These collaborations yielded recognitions from the Radiological Society of North America and the American Institute of Ultrasound, to name a few.  He was a respected researcher who authored over 100 publications.

Dr. Abu-Yousef was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to service. In 2014, he received an Outstanding Departmental Service Award.  He not only served as the Director of Ultrasound for the Department of Radiology and Medical Director & Advisor to the Sonography Program for close to 40 years, he was also an internationally recognized expert and advocate for ultrasonography.

Most importantly, Monzer will always be remembered for his patience, his kindness, his wisdom and gentle humor.  His loss profoundly affects all of us who were privileged to work alongside him and call him friend.  We miss him greatly and express our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
