The Department of Radiology offers a number of educational opportunities for both those attending The University of Iowa and those affiliated with other institutions. The clinical service at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and at the associated Veterans Administration Hospital is among the best in the nation, as measured by the quality of the clinical faculty, and by the state-of-the-art facilities of the institution. The volume and diversity of clinical demands assure a comprehensive experience for our residents and fellows and outstanding care for our patients.
The Department offers four residency options:
- Diagnostic Radiology
- Diagnostic Radiology Residency Combined with Categorical Year
- Interventional Radiology - Integrated
- Nuclear Medicine

- Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics

- Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR)
For those currently enrolled in medical student education in the Carver College of Medicine, we offer a short clerkship, as well as additional courses, research and externships for those wanting to learn more about radiology. Medical students from other institutions are also welcome to enroll in a number of these programs.
For those seeking to train as technologists or participate in distance education or internships in technology, we offer excellent radiation science educational programs.
The Department of Radiology also maintains its own library, staffed with one full-time librarian, which provides a variety of resources and services for all Radiology faculty and staff.
