Tuition, Fees, and Expenses (On Campus Programs)

  • UI Application Fee - $55
    Payable upon application to The University of Iowa. (non refundable)
     
  • UI Acceptance Fee - $325
    Payable upon acceptance to The University of Iowa. (refundable prior to May 1 for fall)
     
  • Program Admission Fee/Tuition Deposit - $400 ($300 will be credited to tuition in August)
    Payable upon acceptance to a Radiation Sciences program track. (non refundable)
     
  • Program Clinical Assessment Fee - $135
    Payable upon acceptance to a Radiation Sciences program track. (non-refundable)
     
  • Tuition & Fees:
    Semester hours for professional programs in Fall and Spring are 12 -16 and 3 - 10 in Summer.

UI’s Estimated Cost of Attendance: This site assumes only Fall and Spring enrollment. Radiation Sciences students will also enroll in Summer courses.
 

  • Course fees:
    Students may have additional fees associated with individual courses.  Fees will be posted on MyUI prior to course registration.
     
  • Laptop Computer:
    Students are required to provide their own laptop for computerized exams and in-class activities. Contact the Financial Aid Office to request financial assistance. Visit UI Information Technology Services for discounted purchasing information.

College of Medicine Laptop Configurations

  • Health Screening:
    Students are required to complete mandatory requirements. Review the requirements and forms under the “Health Science students” title on the Student Health and Wellness page. Students participating in clinical rotations at other facilities are required to meet the immunization and testing requirements of those facilities.
     
  • Health Insurance:
    Students are required to maintain health insurance each year of attendance. Students may choose to purchase a UI Student Insurance plan or establish coverage from another provider. Plans purchased through another provider require the student to provide proof of coverage annually.  Students must submit a Proof of Coverage Form every year via MyUI > Student Insurance by the deadline.

  • Scrubs - Approximately $200
    Accepted students receive online ordering information regarding the required grey scrubs.
     
  • CPR
    Students must hold a valid BLS for Healthcare Provider level CPR card by the first day of the clinical internship and renew bi-annually.
     
  • Clinical Internships
    Students must have reliable transportation for travel to clinical internships in some programs. Overnight stays are not required, but some clinical sites are outside of the Iowa City area. Contact specific program directors for details. Students participating in clinical rotations at other facilities are required to meet the immunization and testing requirements of those facilities.

    • Diagnostic Medical Sonography
      • General-Vascular Track - Summer of junior year $250 for ARDMS Sonography Principles and Instrumentation exam, Spring of senior year $825 ($275 each for ARDMS Abdomen, OB/GYN, and Vascular Technology exams)
      • Cardiac-Vascular Track – Summer of junior year $250 for ARDMS Sonography Principles and Instrumentation exam, Spring of senior year $550 ($275 each for ARDMS Adult Echocardiography and Vascular Technology exams)
    • Radiologic Technology
      • Spring of senior year $225 for ARRT Radiography exam
    • Radiation Therapy
      • Spring of senior year $225 for ARRT Radiation Therapy exam
    • Nuclear Medicine Technology
      • Spring of senior year $200 for NMTCB exam
      • Spring of senior year $225 for ARRT Nuclear Medicine Technology exam
