Timing of submission and project prioritization

All documents should be submitted in Word format and, other than the Specific Aims page, they will ideally be submitted together. However, if time is an issue, certain subsections of the Research Strategy can be submitted as they are ready, but the smallest acceptable units are:

  • Specific Aims page (or equivalent):
    • first draft – ideally submit by 2 months before the funding agency deadline
    • revised draft – ideally submit by 4 weeks before deadline
  • Significance and Innovation sections (or equivalents)
    • with first draft of Specific Aims page (i.e., by 2 months before deadline)
    • or with revised draft of Specific Aims page and first draft of rest of grant (i.e., by 4 weeks before deadline)
  • Approach section (or equivalent)
    • ideally submit by 4 weeks before deadline
  • Any other documents (e.g., Abstract, Project Narrative, Introduction, Biosketches, Vertebrate Animals)
    • ideally submit by 4 weeks before deadline

Files returned by SERCC staff may include a separate Word document with edits to figure legends; in the case of complex files, this can circumvent software glitches.

All documents should be in Word format and submitted individually as available. Timing of document submission will be determined in consultation with SERCC staff.

Up to 4 documents can be included:

  • Main text, including figure legends
    • single file (Word format)
  • Main figures, submitted as a single merged file
    • images in PDF, PPT, or JPEG format
    • if legends are included, they should be in Word format
  • Supplementary materials
    • text in Word format
    • figures should be merged and submitted in PDF, PPT, or JPEG format, but if legends are included they should be supplied in Word format
  • Cover letter to journal’s editorial office
    • Word format
