Dr. Ronald J. Weigel, MD, PhD, MBA, the E.A. Crowell Jr. Professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery with University of Iowa Health Care, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The National Academy of Medicine is one of three private, nonprofit institutions operating under the charter of the National Academy of Sciences to work outside of government to provide objective advice on matters of science, technology, and health. Membership in the NAM reflects the height of professional achievement and commitment to service. Weigel joins a long list of UI faculty and administrators who have been elected members of the NAM.
