Application Procedures

Primary applicationSubmit the online application to the University of Iowa Office of Admissions.

  • Admission to the MCA program requires successful completion of an undergraduate degree (minimum GPA: 3.00)

Transcripts Submission: Transcripts must be sent to mca-program@uiowa.edu upon submission of the primary application. The secondary application will not be sent until all transcripts have been processed.

  • Official or unofficial transcripts provided by undergraduate institution(s) are acceptable to submit. Upon acceptance to the program, the university requires all official transcripts to be sent to the Office of Admissions. 

Secondary application: Once the primary application and transcripts have been processed and cleared, applicants selected to move forward will receive a link via email to complete the MCA Secondary Application. In the secondary application, applicants will be asked to provide:

  • personal statement detailing your interest in the program and the anatomical sciences
    • Maximum length 5,300 characters, including spaces

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation from a breadth of individuals who can comment on applicant’s skills, attitudes, and characteristics
    • Letters must address competency for the MCA program. Letters written for professional applications will not be accepted

    • At least one (1) letter must be an academic reference

  • A curriculum vitae

  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Dental Admission Test (DAT), or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) exam score submissions (are all optional)

Applicants are also encouraged to submit any other materials that support their application for the admissions committee to consider. 

Application deadlines:

Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis from January through May. Note that applications are considered complete only when both the primary and secondary applications have been completed and all letters of recommendation have been received.

  • October 1, 2023: MCA application opens
  • January 31, 2024: Application review begins
  • May 22, 2024: Final deadline to submit all application materials 

 Interviews are scheduled between February and June following application review. Offers are made on a rolling basis between February and June. One class of up to 16 students is enrolled in August each year.
