MCA Admissions

Thank you for your interest in the Master in Clinical Anatomy (MCA) Program!  

Admission to our program is a multi-step process involving the Office of Admissions and the Department of Anatomy. 

Step 1:  Office of Admissions, University of Iowa 

  • Navigate to the MCA portal page to complete the initial application.  Follow the instructions using the online application. 
  • Basic Requirements:
  • have a BA or BS degree with a strong science background 
  • have a GPA of at least 3.00
  • have an external performance exam from the last five years, such as MCAT (minimum score of 500) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test (score above the 50th percentile with verbal score of at least 150 and math score of at least 150) 
  • if an international applicant whose first language is not English, have a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score between 550 and 600 and be required to pass an English competency certification within the first 12 months of entry into the program 

Step 2:  MCA Program, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Carver College of Medicine

  • Once your registration is cleared by UI Admissions (Step 1), you will receive a link via email to complete the MCA Additional Information.
    • Provide three letters of reference/support
    • submit an official transcript
    • submit a resume/CV
    • submit a personal statement

Step 3:  Interview with MCA Faculty 

  • Students selected for an interview will be contacted by email
  • Arrange for a campus visit to meet with MCA Faculty; 
  • Expenses associated with the interview process are the responsibility of the applicant

Step 4:  Matriculation 

  • Applicants recommended by the MCA Faculty (based on positive assessment of academics, interview, personal statement, and letters of support) will be forwarded to the Office of Admissions with an offer for matriculation.

  • Early consideration submission deadline: January 31
    • Interviews: March 21-25
    • Notification letters/emails: April 01
  • Applications close: May 22
    • Applicant review, offers for interviews: May 26 : Please note that full portfolio, including Letters of Reference, must be complete before interview offers are extended
    • Interviews: May 30-June 2
    • Notification letters/emails: June 9
  • Orientation: August 11
  • Classes begin: August 14
