Help Our Students Travel (HOST) Program

The Help Our Students Travel (HOST) Program matches fourth-year Iowa medical students with alumni volunteers during residency interviews around the country. Alumni provide lodging for students in their homes during their stay, as well as offer advice about the community they are interviewing in.

HOST is a great way for alumni to reconnect and give back to their alma mater. They can also see the caliber of University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine students.

As you may know, medical student indebtedness has become a national concern, and our alumni are generously helping us address this concern by participating in the HOST program. We’d like to thank all of you who have welcomed students into your home and encourage those interested in participating to reach out.

Interested in hosting a UI Carver College of Medicine student that is interviewing in your city?

If you are a Carver College of Medicine alumnus that wants to participate in the HOST program this fall, please contact Katie McKibben at 1-319-335-8085 or katie-mckibben@uiowa.edu.

Interviewing outside of Iowa City? Stay with an alumnus!

If you are a medical student preparing to travel for an interview, skip paying for an AirBnB. UI Carver College of Medicine alumni are located all over the United States and we have alumni host families in almost every city!

If you are interested in participating in the Mentorship Program, please fill out the student registration form with the details of your request. At that time, Katie McKibben or another UI Health Care Collegiate and Community Relations team member will begin searching for a suitable mentor and get back to you with more details.
