Regional and Acute Pain Medicine Anesthesiologist

The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking an accomplished academic anesthesiologist with interest and expertise in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise in pre-operative evaluation and management of acute pain. Including indications and contra-indications for interventional pain management techniques.
  • Expertise in intra-operative application of multi-modal analgesia, including the use of regional anesthesia (with or without the combination of general anesthesia).
  • Post-operative application of regional anesthesia when appropriate.
  • Perioperative multi-modal acute pain management of surgical patients and acute pain management of hospitalized nonsurgical patients.
  • Provide acute pain management for the full spectrum of surgeries, injuries, medical etiologies, and other invasive procedures that produce acute pain in the hospital setting;
  • Perform a comprehensive range of advanced regional anesthesia procedures for appropriate indications in a safe, consistent, and effective manner, understanding the risks and benefits and communicating them to patients;
  • Act as a consultant to other anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, other medical professionals, operating room managers and hospital administrators;
  • Provide leadership in the clinical practice of acute pain management and the organization of the acute pain service within the hospital setting with the requisite knowledge and skills to establish a new regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine program in their future practice;
  • Integrate emerging technologies and translate new knowledge to improve the subspecialty continuously; and
  • Apply evidence-based methods to teach future subspecialists in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine.
  • Anesthesia practitioners with an eligibility to obtain a license to practice Anesthesia at the University of Iowa and has completed a fellowship in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement

  • Qualified candidates must show successful completion of an approved residency program in anesthesiology
  • Qualified candidate must have completed a Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Fellowship
  • Candidates must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Iowa
  • Candidates must be board-certified in Anesthesiology (or non-US Board equivalent) or be in the certification process (pending completion of residency or fellowship). On occasion, individuals trained outside of the United States who are certified by an equivalent national certification group may be considered.
