CRNAs help out in ICUs during pandemic surge

As University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics prepared for a surge in COVID-19 patients in November, many specialized care providers have been reassigned to help in areas most heavily impacted by the deadly virus - particularly the intensive care units. Among those specialized care providers called upon to help were Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), who have already spent part of their nursing careers caring for ICU patients.

The College of Nursing recently profiled the experience of two of those CRNAs, Austin Blay and David Villanueva, both of whom graduated from Iowa's Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist training program in May.

In addition to Blay and Villanueva, these CRNAs have been assisting in the ICUs to ensure we provide the best possible care to COVID-19 patients:

  • Greg Beiermann
  • Lindsay Brown
  • Courtney Fahrer
  • Taylor Hull
  • Brandon Janss
  • Jasmine Kayvani
  • Dalya Lovy
  • Mallory Lukan
  • Kara Morningstar
  • Christina Niemann
  • Chad Paisley
  • Trent Sassman
