Congratulations to the 12 residents and 10 fellows who complete their Department training as of June 30. The graduates were feted at the Feller Club Room in Carver-Hawkeye Arena Saturday, June 22, for their accomplishments.

A few of the graduates are remaining with the Department for the next chapter in their careers:

  • Graduating CA-3 Sung Kim, MD, will be the Department's Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellow for 2019-2020.
  • Graduating CA-3 Bhavana Yalamuru, MBBS, will be one of the Department's Pain Medicine fellows for 2019-2020.
  • Graduating Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellow Aric Aldrich, MD, and graduating Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellow Sangini Punia, MBBS, join the faculty July 1.

Our other resident graduates are pursuing a variety of next steps in numerous locations:

  • Tyler Foster, DO, enters private practice with Metro Anesthesia & Pain Management in Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Karolyn Fox-Dahl, MD, accepted a Critical Care fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
  • Amanda Greene, MD, accepted a Chronic Pain fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
  • Reid Johnson, MD, enters private practice with Metropolitan Anesthesia Network in Burnsville, Minnesota.
  • Timothy Mundell, MD, enters private practice with Confluence Health in Wenatchee, Washington.
  • Eli Musselman, MD, enters private practice with the McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa.
  • Jonathan Otten, MD, enters private practice with Madison Anesthesiology Consultants in Madison, Wisconsin.
  • Daniel Rhoades, MD, accepted an Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
  • Chelsea Stiles, MD, enters private practice at Associated Anesthesiologists in Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Coby Thompson, MD, enters private practice at Physician Anesthesia Care in Iowa City, Iowa.

Likewise, our fellow graduates are moving on to new opportunities:

  • Critical Care Fellow Alex Suginaka, DO, accepted a faculty position at the University of Minnesota.
  • Critical Care Fellow Bharathram Vasudevan, MD, continues his training with an anesthesiology residency at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago.
  • Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellow Andrew Lowe, MD,  enters private practice with Mercy Health System in Springfield, Missouri.
  • Pain Fellow Dustin Goetz, MD, enters private practice with the Center for Pain Medicine in Fargo, North Dakota.
  • Pain Fellow Sydney Harman, MD, enters private practice with Methodist Sports Medicine in Carmel, Indiana.
  • Pain Fellow Michael Reyes, MD, enters private practice with Essentia Health in Brainerd, Minnesota.
  • Pain Fellow Jun Xu, MBBS, enters private practice with the Iowa Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa.

As part of the graduation ceremony, exceptional teachers also were recognized:

  • Students at Carver College of Medicine named Tyler Foster Senior Resident Teacher of the Year.
  • Andrew Feider, MD, was named Teacher of the Year by the graduating class.
  • Lovkesh Arora, MBBS, MD, Sundar Krishnan, MBBS, and Archit Sharma, MBBS, received Excellence in Teaching awards from the entire resident group.
