General SDS Information:
- What is an SDS?
- SDS stands for Safety Data Sheets. As of 2012 the United states has adopted the SDS sheets to replace the traditional MSDS sheets. The sheets are very similar except Safety Data Sheets conform with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System.(GHS). SDS sheets informs a person of the hazards of the chemical, how to obtain information on the chemical, and what to do in the event of a spill or accident.
- Manufacturers are required to provide SDS sheets for the chemicals they sell, and you can find and download SDS sheets on manufacturer websites.

Dry Ice & Liquid Nitrogen
Dry Ice and Liquid Nitrogen are available through Biochemistry Stores, on a self-serve basis, in room 4-329 BSB. This room is just down the hall from our Biochemistry Stores location and can be found by following the signs from Biochemistry Stores to room 4-329. This room should be open 24 hours a day.
Important Note:
The exterior doors to BSB will be locked on weekends and between the hours of 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM during the week. During locked hours, access can only be gained by holding an authorized University of Iowa Identification Card agains the card lock access box at the door. Authorization for access to BSB can only be gained by submitting need for access to your departmental administrator and your department, in turn, submitting the necessary documentation.
