Dr. Pitcher is an Affiliate Faculty in the Program in Bioethics and Humanities and Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He received his MBBCh at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Pitcher completed his Residency in General Surgery at the Coronation Hospital and Johannesburg Hospital as well as a Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Johannesburg Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, UK. He trained in and obtained the certificate in bioethics from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Pitcher practices Pediatric Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and serves as a consultant on the Hospital’s Ethics Consult Service. He sits on the UIHC Ethics working group and is a facilitator on the Critical Care Fourth Year Professionalism Seminar.
