Eight-year old Colton Barker from Sioux City, Iowa will be this week’s Kid Captain for the University of Iowa football game on September 19th. Colton was treated by pediatric eye specialists at UI Hospitals and Clinics for retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the retina that mostly affects young children. Since the initial diagnosis in 2009, he has undergone 10 surgeries and has had seven prosthetic eyes so far. Earlier this year he celebrated five years of being cancer-free. Watch his story.
Kid Captain is a partnership that began in 2009 between University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories.
