Dr. Sara Downes joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Service.

After completion of the Orthoptics training program in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa, Dr. Downes attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.  She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree and then joined University of Minnesota Physicians where she was an optometrist and instructor.

Dr. Downes specializes in the diagnosis and management of strabismus and ocular disease in pediatric patients.  She sees patients and their families at the main hospital Eye Clinic and at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic located in the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
