This week we celebrated philanthropy here at the University of Iowa, and especially in our Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and the Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research. “Phil” (Philanthropy) highlights the impact of giving on an our area, as well as allows us to thank those who have supported us.
“Phil,” in our department is the 20 endowed chairs and professorships faculty positions that help retain and recruit the best physicians and scientists. “Phil” has provided us with such things as The Sarah Smith, RN Ophthalmic Education Fund, The Wolken Ethics Lecture Series, and robot “Rosie” used for research. Gifts from the Wolken Family, the Rosenmertz family (the robot’s namesake) and many others continue to drive our philosophy of excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our “Phil” supports us as a continuous, top 10 nationally ranked program.
During Phil’s week, we say thank you to all who have partnered with us in achieving our goals. We hope that you continue to see the impact all around the University of Iowa and UI Hospitals and Clinics. Thank you!
Phil’s Day was recognized with signage highlighting a few of the areas and people impacted by philanthropic support from grateful patients, alumni and other generous donors.
