Family and Community Medicine Core Clerkship

FAM:8302 Family and Community Medicine is a 6 week required rotation. The goal is to introduce students to the specialty of Family Medicine and the intersection between care delivered within the ambulatory care setting and the local community.  During this rotation students will have their time divided between a 4-week placement with a board certified Family Physician in a community-based practice, and a 2-week placement with an RMEC, located in either Davenport, Des Moines, Mason City, Sioux City, or Waterloo. (A small number of spots will be available with UIHC Family Medicine.)  Students will select and enroll beginning in the late fall of their M2 year. Students receive personal, individual assistance from Medical Student Education staff in site selection. Stacey Appenheimer, MD is course director.
