New in 2022:

Graduate student internships launch in the IIHG Bioinformatics Division!  Check this website for more information on applying to the Fall 2022 position.

Exciting advancements being pursued in the IIHG Bioinformatics Division in 2022:

The"Dragen" (world's fastest genomics processor) touches down in the IIHG!

The Illumina DRAGEN Bio-IT Platform offers:

  • Accurate data: Detects small variants with high analytical sensitivity and specificity
  • Lossless genomic compression: Reduces FASTQ file sizes up to 5X with DRAGEN ORA (Original Read Archive) lossless compression
  • Robust speed: Processes an entire human genome at 30× coverage in about 25 minutes
  • Frequent releases: Includes releases of regular enhancements and upgrades
  • Various applications: Analyzes next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from whole genomes, exomes, and RNA

IIHG Bioinformatics core maintains exclusive access to the world's fastest genomics data server to support the CCOM research mission.   We are currently in testing and development right now.  This is not a cloud-based solution...we have full control over our own rack-mounted Dragen unit on the campus network with Duo authentication.  Contact us if you want to partner with us to leverage Dragen's incredible speed and precision for your whole genome/exome pipelines.

Pursuing advancements in spatial single-cell RNA-seq and ONT MinION long-read sequencing

We are actively working to develop and promote advanced analyses in single-cell RNA-seq, such as Visium Spatial.  We are also implementing pipelines for handling ONT MinION long read data.

Pipeline design with Nextflow & SnakeMake

Do you need a custom analysis pipeline?   Need to perform a series of steps and transformations thousands of times using custom code snippets in python or R?  Talk to us about writing a custom pipeline for you using a modern parallel data analysis framework, like NextFlow.

We have experience developing NextFlow pipelines for ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, and other custom use cases.  We are currently using the NF technology to support the custom analysis needs of FBB-BioMed, an exciting startup company using RNA-seq for infectious disease screening.
