Topics in Genetic Counseling Webinar Series

The Iowa Institute of Human Genetics will be offering the Topics in Genetic Counseling Webinar Series to undergraduate students and recent college graduate interested in pursuing graduate school for genetic counseling. The series will run from June 7-July 30, exact dates are yet to be determined.

The purpose of this series is to provide you with exposure to hot topics in the field and to assist in preparing you for a successful career in genetic counseling. Participants are expected to engage in discussions during each meeting and are encouraged to attend all sessions. There will be approximately 20 online sessions. Participants can receive a Certificate of Completion if they attend at least 18 of the online sessions, complete a pre and posttest, and a program evaluation. We will take attendance at each of the sessions.

Schedule

The schedule for this webinar series is being finalized. When it is available, we will send it to registrants and post it to the website.

Sessions are scheduled Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 12-1pm CT.  The days and times of the sessions are chosen based on availability of the Genetic Counselors who are taking time out of their day to facilitate these discussions. It is not possible to accommodate requests to alter the schedule.

A couple of quick items about the program

  • There is no charge to participate in the IIHG Topics in Genetic Counseling Webinar Series
  • The program is only available in real time and sessions will not be available online.
  • Online participants are encouraged to participate in the discussions
  • Most sessions will last 1-hour

An additional education event, Applying to Graduate Programs in Genetic Counseling, is being planned for June. This event is not considered to be part of the Topics in Genetic Counseling Webinar Series. This will require separate registration.
