Research at Iowa - the Forefront of Biomedical Research
The research enterprise of The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine garnered $295.1 million in external funding in FY 2023. According to 2023-24 U.S. News & World Report, research in the UI Carver College of Medicine is ranked 44th among public institutions.
The enterprise is overseen by Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, Dean and Patricia Winokur, MD, Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Science. Robert Piper, PhD, directs the UI Carver College of Medicine’s core research facilities.
Many college faculty members are internationally renowned for their research. Two faculty members are Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators, thirteen are members of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science and two are members of the National Academies of Sciences.
