Neuroimaging

Nancy Andreasen, MD, PhD

Neuroimaging is a major strength at the University of Iowa and will play a key role in the Iowa Neuroscience Institute.

As a whole, neuroimaging encompasses both animal and human studies and includes modalities of both MRI and PET. This area of research has a broad impact across many colleges and departments. Today, neuroimaging projects make up a substantial portion of neuroscience research at the University of Iowa, with over $8.5 million in total costs awarded in fiscal year 2010.

Presently, investigators from the Colleges of Medicine (psychiatry, neurology, radiology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, internal medicine, anesthesia, neuroscience, urology, and pediatrics), liberal arts (psychology, sociology, communication disorders and sciences), business, nursing, engineering (electrical and biomedical), and public health are conducting neuroimaging studies. Seventy-five percent of MR imaging research studies conducted in fiscal year 2013 were neuroimaging studies.
