Accelerator Grants

Iowa Neuroscience Institute (INI) Accelerator Grant
Next application period: Fall 2022

An important goal of the INI is to support new and existing high impact neuroscience research at the University of Iowa.  Toward this, we are announcing the 2020 application round for INI Accelerator Grants. Accelerator Grant applications may involve:

  • starting a new project
  • gathering reviewer-requested preliminary data for a grant that has been scored but needs further work to get it under the payline
  • extending research from an existing grant to increase impact or branch into a new direction
  • supporting a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar from an underrepresented group
  • pivoting to a new line of research that will ramp-up following the COVID-19 shutdown and lingering disruptions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must focus on a neuroscience topic that is new, or adds value to existing research by providing critical preliminary data for a scored grant application, or extends funded research into a new direction.
  • May involve basic, translational, or clinical neuroscience research
  • Applications can be from any college.
  • The PI must either be a member of the INI or be someone who could qualify for INI membership.

APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE:

  • A cover page that includes: Project title; PI’s contact information and public lay abstract highlighting the goal and importance of the project.
  • A one-page description of the project including: significance, scientific goals, and the value added to the investigator’s research program.
  • Any grant reviews for a related, recently-submitted, scored application that missed the pay line.
  • A half-page description of the budget with justification.  Direct costs for research (e.g., research personnel, core usage, animal care, etc.) are allowed.  Travel, tuition and faculty salary are not allowable expenses.
  • PI’s NIH biosketch including current funding.
  • Additional materials may be required after submission for review.
