Neurohumoral control of circulation in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases
Our research is directed towards understanding neurohumoral control of circulation in health, disease and aging. Expertise in my laboratory includes a combination of integrative cardiovascular, neurophysiological, molecular and autonomic approaches to investigate the role of renin-angiotensin system, sympathetic nervous system, and hypothalmic-pituitary adrenal axis in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The Sabharwal laboratory is funded through National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Heart Association (AHA), and internal and external collaborative research awards. Ongoing research projects in the laboratory include defining-(i) underlying mechanisms of stress-induced sudden cardiac death in heart failure and cardiomyopathy; (ii) inflammatory pathways leading to dementia in Alzheimer's disease; and (iii) role of methionine sulfoxide reductase-A (MsrA) in hypertension and dysautonomia.
