Identification for Employment:
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you bring the following to campus as they are needed to complete your payroll appointment paperwork on your first day:
1) YOUR PASSPORT or
2) YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE & SOCIAL SECURITY CARD - in which case, both are needed.
Also bring your banking information: BANK ROUTING & ACCOUNT NUMBERS are needed for direct deposit of your pay.

Housing Information:
You will be staying in Petersen Hall (304 Grand Avenue, Iowa City, IA 52242) this summer: https://housing.uiowa.edu/residence-halls/petersen-hall.

- The Petersen Hall desk (319-353-4382) will be open 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.(midnight) daily beginning May 19 to July 30, while summer conferences are in session.
- Report any problems to the desk in person or by phone - including maintenance issues.
- The Petersen Hall main entrance will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Main entrance prox cards are issued to guests living in Petersen Hall for after-hours building access. NOTE: In the event that a residence hall guest is locked out of their building, the Petersen north main entrance has a call box located inside the vestibule which accesses the building’s 24 hour desk.
COVID-19 Expectations
The university has developed and implemented policies and procedures to help lower the risk of COVID-19 exposure and spread. All summer camp/conference participants, staff, and guests are expected to follow the health and safety measures implemented by the University of Iowa as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and other applicable public health authorities during a public health crisis. These health and safety measures may be subject to modification during the summer as public health guidance changes. COVID-19 Symptoms/Reporting
If you are feeling ill and have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, stay in your room, self-isolate, and consult your health care provider to see if you need COVID-19 testing. Then contact sumr@uiowa.edu for additional information. For specific information on self-reporting while living in the halls this summer visit housing.uiowa.edu/camps-and-conferences.
Mail and Delivery Address
- Petersen Hall guests can pick up their mail at the building desk.
- Outgoing USPS mail may be dropped off at the Petersen Hall desk. Postage is not sold at residence hall desks.

Towels & Housekeeping
- One pillow, one bedspread, and sheets will be provided by the residence hall (new linens provided weekly).
- You may want to bring another blanket and/or pillow with you.
- Trash will be emptied 2 times weekly.
- Bring your own COLORFUL TOWELS (as white ones will be picked up by housekeeping and disappear).
Internet & Wi-Fi Service
- Each room will have one wired port per bed. All users must abide by the University’s Acceptable Use policy (https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/4028). Violation of this policy will result in the termination of an individual’s summer connection.
- Hawk ID/Guest IDs are not needed to access Internet/ResNet individual room ports.
- Visitors to the University of Iowa campus can enjoy free guest wireless service by selecting the “UI-Guest” network when configuring a device for wireless access. https://its.uiowa.edu/guestwifi
- All connections will be ON the whole summer. Since summer is the main maintenance window for the network, there will be periodic outages and downtime.

Laundry Rooms - UPDATED!!!!
- The Petersen Hall laundry facility is located on the main floor across from the elevators. WASHERS AND DRYERS ARE FREE TO SUMMER PARTICIPANTS.
- Guests should bring their own high efficiency laundry detergent and fabric softener. Instructions on how to use the laundry facilities are posted in laundry rooms.

Petersen Kitchen - UPDATED!!!!
- Petersen Hall is equipped with a community kitchen available to Petersen residents only. The small kitchen is located on the main floor across from the Petersen Multi-purpose Room.
- To access the kitchen, summer residents must check out a key at the building desk and return the key after each use. Kitchen users will be charged for excessive cleaning or damage that occurs.
- The kitchen is NOT furnished with any kitchen supplies – nothing is provided for cooking or eating.
- Contact the MSTP office and we may be able to loan you some kitchen supplies for the summer - let us know what you need.
- Residents may NOT store food items in the kitchen or refrigerator at any time. Any food items found will be disposed of.
Maintenance
Maintenance or custodial problems and emergencies for Petersen should be reported to building desk as soon as possible. General maintenance and custodial issues will be attended to Monday through Friday during working hours (8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.). Emergencies will be responded to on a 24-hour basis. After office hours and on weekends, report all maintenance or custodial problems to the Petersen Desk (319-353-4382).

Parking:
If you plan to drive your vehicle to Iowa City we can provide you with parking. We will ask you for the make, model and color of your vehicle, license plate with issuing state.
- Short-term parking near the dorm is available at parking meters. Meters are monitored from 7:30 a.m. through 11 p.m. daily.
- West side residence halls do not have their own parking facilities.
- University parking lots are marked as to when parking is prohibited - you are free to park there during off hours. Parking is not enforced on university holidays.
Public Transportation:
All buses in Iowa City & Coralville use the Transit App https://transitapp.com/
- There is also a bus service to Cedar Rapids that only operates on weekdays. https://www.380express.com/schedule.php

Meals:
We do not provide meal plans for our SUMR students.
- Each room has one microwave & fridge unit. We can organize a grocery shopping trip on that first Sunday after you arrive if there is interest.

For the first week, the Petersen Hall dining area will be closed. You can dine in the following places:

May 28-30 Clinton Street Market which is in the Burge Residence Hall. Open 8 am – 6 pm
On Tuesday, May 31st, the Catlett Market Place dining facility will open for the summer and will provide all meals except for Sunday breakfast.

- No food may be taken from the market place, except for meals for participants in isolation housing.
- If you have an Iowa One card you can use the Market2Go program.
- Market places do not accept cash. Forms of payment accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, UI Charge, and Hawkeye Dollars.

The EMRB Cafe may be the closest cafeteria if you are working in the MERF, EMRB, MedLabs, or PBDB buildings.
- Open 7:30 am - 4:00 pm weekdays.
- EMRB Cafe is cashless and accepts Hawkeye Dollars, UI Charge (including IowaOne Cards), Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Hawkeye Dollars:
Hawkeye Dollars are funds available to you with your room contract that may be used at all campus dining locations and at some vending machines in the residence halls.

- You will find a card dispenser & dollar fill up station in the Petersen Hall lobby.
- Only add the amount of money you will be able to use during the summer as there is a $20 processing that will be deducted from the balance to get your refund.
