Jeffrey Coble successfully passed his Ph.D. examination on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. His thesis title was "Molecular mechanisms of brain RAS hyperactivity upon fluid balance: sufficiency of angiotensin production from the subfornical organ to affect fluid balance”. Members of his thesis committee were chair, Curt Sigmund from the Department of Pharmacology; Kamal Rahmouni from the Department of Pharmacology; Alan K. Johnson from the Departments of Psychology and Pharmacology; Chris Benson from the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology; and Steven Lentz from the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Lentz is the director of the MSTP program. Dr. Coble’s research focused on using genetic methods to define the role of the subfornical organ and downstream PKC signaling in mediating fluid intake in response to local angiotensin-II production.

He received a B.A and B.S. in Philosophy & Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior from the University of California Davis and entered the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Iowa in 2007. He joined the Pharmacology Department in 2009 to begin the PhD phase of his training. Immediate plans are to start his clinical clerkships in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and then a sub-internship in Internal Medicine, which will be followed by residency and fellowship training. He has applied for the Anesthesia externship during his last year of medical school, and he plans to apply for residency in Anesthesia.
