Kevin Chen, and undergraduate student researcher in the Grobe laboratory, received an individual Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship (2018 UGSRF) from the American Physiological Society. Mr. Chen will be studying the mechanisms controlling osmotic balance and blood volume control during cardiovascular complications of pregnancy, such as preeclampsia. He will be working with the University of Iowa Maternal-Fetal Tissue Bank, based in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (directed by Drs. Donna Santillan and Mark Santillan) to obtain and analyze human blood and urine samples from pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia. His fellowship will provide stipend support for summer 2018, plus travel support to attend the Experimental Biology 2019 conference (April 2019, in Orlando, FL).
