Our mission is to drive breakthroughs in the scientific understanding of neurological, metabolic, and cancer-related diseases, develop innovative treatments, and educate the next generation of leaders in the Pharmacological Sciences.

With a history of excellence spanning over 100 years, the Department has established itself at the forefront of research and education. Comprised of 16 laboratories outfitted with state-of-the art technology, we offer students versatility alongside comprehensive research training. Our cohort of innovative, collaborative faculty not only publish in high-impact journals but have received international recognition.  In testament to this, our research program is supported by over $13 million in funding annually from federal and private agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and American Heart Association (AHA).
