The UI Obesity Surgery program recently received a renewal of its designation as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation.

Designation as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence signals to health care professionals and consumers that UI Hospitals and Clinics meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards of care for bariatric (weight loss) surgery.

UI Hospitals and Clinics is also recognized as an United Resource Networks Bariatric Resource Services Centers of Excellence and a Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery.
