Fellowship Programs

The Orthopedic Department provides five fellowship programs.  They are:

  • Adult Reconstruction Fellowship - This fellowship is designed to offer a comprehensive experience in hip and knee replacement – including a range of primary arthroplasty including direct anterior hip and partial knee replacement, computer-navigated and robotic-assisted hip and knee surgery, complex primary arthroplasty with post-traumatic deformity, skeletal dysplasia, hip/spine patients, revision hip and knee replacement, periprosthetic joint infection treatment,  and periprosthetic hip and knee fracture management.  Learn more about our Adult Reconstruction Fellowship Program.
  • Hand Surgery Fellowship – This fellowship is designed to provide a broad experience in hand and upper extremity surgery, including trauma, arthritis, congenital, and microsurgery.  The fellow may choose to be involved in a broad spectrum of elbow and shoulder reconstructive surgery.  Learn more about our Hand Surgery Fellowship Program.
  • Foot and Ankle Fellowship – This fellowship offers a diversity of experience in all areas of adult and adolescent foot and ankle surgery including sports medicine, trauma, and reconstruction of the foot and ankle.  The fellowship includes exposure to a wide variety of foot and ankle surgical techniques.  Learn more about our Foot and Ankle Fellowship Program.
  • Oncology Fellowship - The University of Iowa Orthopedic Oncology Fellowship is designed to train orthopedic surgeons in underserved areas of the world in the clinical management of musculoskeletal tumors of the pelvis and extremities. Fellows will be exposed to all aspects of the care of patients with benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors including clinical evaluation, surgical decision-making, reconstructive techniques, and perioperative management.   • Sports Medicine Fellowship – The purpose of the fellowship is to provide a broad based experience in all aspects of Orthopedic sports medicine. The fellow will receive experience in dealing with operative and non-operative problems of all joints.  Medical coverage is provided for over 700 Division I athletes on 20 teams at the University of Iowa, as well as non-university amateurs and professional athletes.
