Hawkeye Sports Medicine Symposium

The 33rd Annual Hawkeye Sports Medicine Symposium will be held on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa.  If you have any questions please contact sportsmed-hawksymp@uiowa.edu.

The Symposium will feature sessions on pediatric sports medicine, dance issues and a surgery/anatomy video and live session.  

Our featured speakers are national caliber and recognized as experts:
George de la Pena, Director of Dance (University of Iowa); Julie O’Connell, PT;  Jennifer Janowski, PT; Selina Shah, MD (Dance & Sports Medicine); and Jay Albright, MD (Orthopedic Surgeon/Team Physician).   CME credit and other association approved providers including BOC for athletic trainers are available.  The theme this year is “Pediatric Sports and Dance”.   Intended audience - athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians, and all allied health care professionals.

The program is designed to present health care professionals with current knowledge about:

  • Diagnosis, management, and prevention of a variety of sports injuries.
  • Emphasize uniquely influential factors that must be addressed in the provision of the highest quality of care to the competitive athlete.
  • Present specific performance improvement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of detectable problems that exist in young athletes.

In addition to lectures, interactive discussions will be offered to enhance the participant’s understanding of the topics presented.
