Welcome to the Welsh Lab!
This is an image of a pig airway surface with mucus strands emerging from submucosal gland ducts. The mucus strands are mainly composed of mucin 5B filaments, shown in red, intertwined with another airway mucin, muc5AC, shown in green. These mucus strands flow over the airway surface to remove inhaled bacteria and other particulates and keep the airway clean.
