2017 Carl J. Gillies Visiting Professor Lecture

We are pleased to welcome Christopher G. Filippi, MD, as the 2017 Carl J. Gillies Visiting Professor, on December 4-5, 2017.

Dr. Filippi is currently Professor of Radiology and Vice Chair of Biomedical Imaging and Translational Science at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.  He has extensive expertise in clinical and translational research in advanced and emerging MR technologies including diffusion tensor imaging, resting state and functional MRI and T1ρ MR quantification.  His current grants are concerned with the development of a novel quantitative imaging biomarkers of glymphatic flow in Alzheimer’s disease and improving the management of multiple sclerosis patients through the use of a non-contrast MR imaging techniques.  He serves on numerous committees for ASFNR, ASNR, ASPNR and RSNA, and is a member of the United Nations WHO International Radiology Quality Network Advisory Panel.  Dr. Fillipi currently serves as President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology and Eastern Neuroradiology Society and has received the Presidential Award from both the Association of University Radiologists and the American Roentgen Ray Society.

The Carl J. Gillies Visiting Professorship was established in 1979 to honor Dr. Gillies who served the UIHC community for over 39 years.  He joined the newly formed Department of Radiology in 1934 and organized the residency training program.  He was also the first to be certified by the American Board of Radiology.  This professorship recognizes Dr. Gillies' contributions to radiology education.
