Mark T. Madsen, PhD, retires after 29 years of service

Mark T. Madsen, PhD

Mark Madsen, PhD, retired after 29 years as a Professor of Radiology and the department Medical Physicist.  Our outstanding and nationally-recognized nuclear medicine program owes much of its success to Mark.   He has been the key person for quality control, teaching nuclear medicine technologist students and residents, and dosimetry calculations in support of the theranostic program.  He has been a leader of very important administrative committees that make much of what we do possible, such as the Radioactive Drug Research Committee and the Radiation Safety Protection Committee.  He has also been active in national leadership with the ABR, the ACR and the AAPM.

Finally, he has been a key member of the theranostic clinical research team.  In 2016 he was the first author on a paper from the University of Iowa that won the Henry Wagner Best Abstract Award for best paper at the SNMMI entitled, “Personalized Kidney Dosimetry for Y-90 DOTATOC Radionuclide Therapy," and in 2017 he won an International Best Abstract Award from the SNMMI for his abstract entitled, "Single Time Point Dose Estimate for Bi-Exponential Clearance."

Mark will now assume a role as an Emeritus Professor of Radiology and will continue to contribute his expertise to the department, for which we are all grateful.  Mark was honored at a "Maltese Falcon" (after his favorite movie!) - themed retirement party on December 15, 2017.  Check out more photos of the event on our Facebook page!
