Research Summary

My research interests include investigations into the pathogenesis of breast and thyroid cancers. I worked on identifying the genetic determinants of breast cancer risk, using a chemically induced consomic rat mammary carcinoma model. I examined signaling pathways involved in breast and thyroid cancer invasion. I am a collaborator on investigations in patient well-being such as using a psychological intervention to prevent persistent pain following breast cancer surgery, and quality of life alterations after contralateral prophylactic mastectomy. In addition, I am investigating how rurality influences the delivery of breast cancer surgical care, and how reconstruction affects the cost of breast cancer surgery.
