The College of Nursing presents the national premiere of the film, The Bears on Pine Ridge. The BEARS Project & film convey the story of the disadvantaged youth & poor mental health outlook on Pine Ridge Reservation. "The BEARS" tell a touching story of perseverance & hope, honoring life against insurmountable odds. The NURS:3655:1002 course has developed this free & open to the public presentation as their Public Health Practicum project to bring awareness & support to The BEARS Project & its founder, "Tiny" DeCory, the highly respected and fearless Lakota female elder considered "The Voice” on the issue. Viewers will be given unprecedented access into the reality of and the fight against the devastating youth mental health crisis, which is transferrable to mental health crises observed across the county.

The premiere will be held on Nov. 2, 2023, in the IMU's Iowa Theater. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with a roundtable discussion including individuals from our local Native American community following the premiere.
