Quad Cities Mini Medical School Program - Weighty Matters: Unraveling the Obesity-Cancer Connection

Cancer rates and obesity rates are both on the rise in Iowa. Is there really a connection? Join us for an interactive Mini Medical School Program to unravel the research and find out.  

Obesity is a known risk factor for cancer and cancer progression. In this program, we’ll explore the links between cancer outcomes with obesity, with a specific focus on breast cancer. And we’ll investigate how weight shapes a person’s cancer treatment and experience.  

This three-part program will help you understand breast cancer trends and how breast cancer development and progression is associated with obesity; gain insights into how weight influences the treatment, experiences, and outcomes of a cancer journey; and understand the link between obesity and muscle-wasting in cancer and its impact on survival in pancreatic cancer.
