Please join the Upstream Initiative for an impactful conversation about food insecurity and health lead by Dr. Berkowitz. We ask you register in advance here: https://uiowa.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rz9Ybpd-Tq2eYmyguEXAiQ

Dr. Berkowitz is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine & Clinical Epidemiology. He is a general internist and primary care doctor. He studies the relationship between health-related social needs, such as food insecurity, and health outcomes. His current work emphasizes interventions that address these needs as part of clinical care, and the health effects of policies that affect the distribution of unmet health-related social needs.

The Upstream Initiative is proud to host Dr. Berkowitz and invites everyone interested to join the Upstream Initiative through volunteering and spreading awareness. The Upstream Initiative is an interdisciplinary group of graduate health professions students, nursing students, undergraduate students, and faculty who volunteer and support the High-Risk Obstetrics Clinic at UIHC by connecting patients with resources in their hometown to combat food insecurity and transportation needs. The Upstream Initiative is also growing to support other clinics and community partners such as the Coralville Food Pantry and Mobile Clinic.
