The Combating Antimicrobial Resistance through Rapid Implementation of Available Guidelines and Evidence (CARRIAGE) study, led by program directors Dr. Eli Perencevich, professor of internal medicine and epidemiology, and Dr. Michael Rubin from University of Utah Health Care, has received funding through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI).

The QUERI program’s goal is to improve the health and care of Veterans by implementing effective clinical practices into routine care. The national network of QUERI programs serve a “laboratories” that use quality improvement strategies to better implement effective practices that help accomplish national VA priority goals through a coalition of operations partners and academically-affiliated VA investigators. The CARRIAGE QUERI aims to address the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance through strategies targeting improved use of antibiotics and prevention of transmission of antimicrobial resistant bacteria within VA patient care settings.
