Mary Beth Fasano, MD, MSPH, Clinical Professor in Immunology and of Pediatrics, has been elected Secretary-Treasurer of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI). This is the first role she will fill in the professional organization’s board of directors. Then, in March 2020, Dr. Fasano will assume the role of President of the AAAAI. She was elected by members and fellows in the academy.
Membership in the AAAI is composed of more than 7,000 allergists, immunologists, and other related medical specialists, from the United States, Canada, and 72 other countries. In addition to advancing the understanding of and treatment for allergy, asthma, and immunology, the AAAAI also advocates for specialty-related issues that matter to providers and their patients. This has included communicating with congressional offices on the importance of increased research funding, as well as more general practice-related matters such as coding and billing issues.
Dr. Fasano has long been active with AAAAI for many years and her work has been appreciated. Last year, Dr. Fasano received the AAAAI’s 2017 Special Recognition Award in advancing the goals of the organization and its constituents.
