Dr. Kevin Glenn, Associate Professor of General Internal Medicine, has been named as the permanent Director of the Adult Hospitalist Program. The Program, staffed by more than 40 physicians and 10 Advanced Practice Providers, provides care for adult patients admitted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and to the Iowa City VA Medical Center. Hospitalists also provide institutional leadership, educate house staff and medical students, design and implement quality improvement initiatives, and engage in scholarly activities.

Dr. Glenn is a decorated and honorably discharged member of the United States Navy and a veteran of the first Gulf War. He has been with the University of Iowa since his days as a medicine resident and then Chief Resident. Dr. Glenn first distinguished himself as an excellent clinician, dedicated educator, and an exemplary researcher. In more recent years, he joined the Hospitalist Program and has served as Interim Director since November 2014. He has provided strong leadership in this role - leading successful recruiting efforts, supporting faculty development and scholarly work, and implementing innovative quality improvement efforts designed to increase the early discharge of patients and geographically locate patients to improve the efficiency of care. These latter efforts have profoundly improved patient and provider satisfaction in addition to easing the burden on our frequently at-capacity institution. Dr. Glenn is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, Gerontological Society of America, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the American Society for Cell Biology. Last year, he was also selected by Dr. Robillard to participate in the Masters in Healthcare Delivery Science program at Dartmouth College.
