Grippen Goddard Wins Waxman Scholarship

Dr. Amanda Grippen Goddard, Chief Resident in Internal Medicine, has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2018 Herbert S. Waxman Chief Resident Teaching Scholarship. Each year the American College of Physicians (ACP) honors six Chief Residents with this award, providing them an opportunity to assist in teaching popular clinical skills workshops with expert faculty at ACP’s annual scientific meeting.

This year’s meeting will take place in April in New Orleans. As a Waxman Scholar, Dr. Goddard will receive complimentary registration and reimbursement for her travel, accommodations, and other expenses. This year, scholars will assist in teaching workshops on ultrasound-guided invasive procedures, arthrocentesis and bursal injections, and abscess incision and drainage. Dr. Goddard will teach a workshop in performing lumbar punctures.

Of this honor, Dr. Goddard said, “Having attended and presented at several ACP meetings, I have been fortunate to learn about the most recent advances in clinical medicine from experts in the field and build connections with other young physicians. This scholarship gives me an opportunity to give back to the ACP community by helping teach residents and medical students some of the essential procedures one needs to learn proficiently during residency.”
