Dr. Eli Perencevich, Associate Chair for Clinical and Health Services Research and Professor of General Internal Medicine and Epidemiology, has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI). For more than 100 years, the ASCI has counted the most respected leaders in academic medicine in its 3,000-member body. These physician scientists from every medical specialty have achieved membership by virtue of their excellence in biomedical research.
The ASCI is committed to advancing understanding and treatment of disease through basic, translational, and population science, in addition to preparing the next generation of physician scientists. This organization’s members serve the cause of human health in a number of ways, providing counsel and advocacy on a variety of critical matters to policy makers and other professional organizations. The ASCI also publishes two leading high-impact journals, The Journal of Clinical Investigation and the more recently launched JCI Insight.
Fewer than 80 members are chosen each year from hundreds of applications based on their significant research accomplishments. Dr. Perencevich has an impressive record of scholarship including serving as PI for Iowa’s CDC Prevention Epicenter and co-PI of Iowa City VA’s Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) program targeting antimicrobial resistance. He is also Center Director of VA HSR&D's Comprehensive Access & Delivery Research & Evaluation (CADRE), a Center of Innovation unit whose goal is to improve veterans’ access to high-quality health care. This Center has a strong track record in developing a nationally recognized group of independently funded health services researchers in the College.
Dr. Perencevich joins nearly 30 ASCI members from the University of Iowa, listed below. Congratulations to Dr. Perencevich on this well-deserved honor.
