Dr. Joseph Szot has been named the Medical Director for Continuing Medical Education (CME) in the Carver College of Medicine, taking over for the recently retired Dr. Joel Gordon, who served in this role since 2006.  During his tenure as CME Medical Director, Dr. Gordon, CME Director Susan Zollo, and the CME staff members had several milestone achievements such as:

  • Earning Accreditation with Commendation,
  • Expanding CME programming and CME Committee membership to be more interdisciplinary and interprofessional,
  • Implementing an online delivery format for enduring material, and
  • Offering outreach conferences.

Dr. Gordon was a champion of non-industry supported CME programming and was a key leader in the creation of the Culturally Responsive Health Care Conference with Dr. Sherree Wilson.

In this position, Dr. Szot will continue to guide the College of Medicine’s CME efforts to provide educational opportunities for faculty as well as physicians from across the state. Dr. Szot has distinguished himself as an outstanding educator, whether teaching at the bedside or serving on education steering committees, earning him regular recognition from students and colleagues alike. Dr. Szot will continue to serve the Department in his roles as Vice Chair for Education and Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Congratulations on your new role, Dr. Szot!
